The Centre, Livingston marks 50 years of trading as LCP UK accelerates brand pipeline and leisure expansion
"Our focus is on attracting further global brands through continued investment, with major announcements coming soon. Reaching 50 years in the community is a major milestone, particularly as it coincides with our entry into leisure through the opening of Hollywood Bowl."
The Centre, Livingston, ranked the most attractive shopping centre in Scotland by the Going Shopping 2026 report (Trevor Wood Associates), marks 50 years of continuous trading this year. LCP UK, part of M Core, is using the milestone to advance the next phase of the asset's repositioning, anchored on new brand signings, the asset's entry into the leisure sector, and continued capex
The 1m sq. ft. centre houses 150+ stores and restaurants and welcomes 15.7m visitors annually. Since LCP UK acquired the asset in 2024, c.£5m has been invested in flooring, energy-efficient lighting, a recyclable-membrane roof replacement, and a phased Building Management System upgrade designed to reduce operational consumption and carbon. The asset is a finalist in the Regeneration Project of the Year category at the 13th Scottish Property Award.
2025 brought signings from Wingstop, a 90-seat Starbucks, Sostrene Grene, MINISO and Flying Tiger. JD Sports is tripling its footprint and reopens in spring 2026. Hollywood Bowl opens later this year, taking the asset into the leisure sector for the first time. Further brand announcements are expected over the coming months.
To mark the anniversary, The Centre, Livingston is running a community engagement programme spanning a time capsule project with nine local primary schools, a 'blether bench' linked by QR code to the asset's website, and a refreshed 'Through the Ages' heritage timeline supported by three scale models of the centre at different stages of its evolution. The work supports dwell time and reinforces the asset's position at the heart of West Lothian's retail and leisure economy.
The centre opened in 1976 as Almondvale Shopping Centre with Woolco as anchor, was refurbished in 1988, and extended in 1995 and 2008, when the M&S flagship opened and the asset was rebranded as The Centre, Livingston.
Simon Eatough, Director at LCP UK, part of M Core, and Asset Manager of The Centre, Livingston, said:
