Rotary Club Donates Defibrillator To Erith Riverside Shopping Centre
The Erith Riverside Shopping Centre has been given a life-saving defibrillator by the local Rotary Club.
Ryan Casey manager of the shopping centre, which is managed by national commercial property and investment company LCP, was presented with the piece of equipment by Keith Wisdom, the president of the Rotary Club, which can be used by any member of the public.
At the same time, the president of the local branch of the charity also presented St John Ambulance with a set of new radios.
Ryan said: "It is an incredibly generous gesture by the Rotary Club, with whom we have a great relationship. The defibrillator is easy to use and because every minute counts when someone has had a heart attack, using it potentially saves someone's life. Having one in the security office in the busy shopping centre means that it is in a prime position should any visitor be unfortunate enough to suffer a heart attack."
The St John Ambulance team will provide training for the Erith Centre members of staff.
Handing over the defibrillator, Mr Wisdom said: "We felt that we would provide a defibrillator to Erith Town centre, where it could provide to be life-saving for someone that has a heart attack whilst out shopping, before the emergency services can arrive.
"We're also pleased to provide the Erith branch of the St John Ambulance personal radios for the senior paramedics. St John exists through public donations and receives little funding from local and national government, unlike the NHS, and they provide such good training for young people in life saving skills."
