Wulfrun Shopping Centre becomes ninth stop on Wolverhampton's Visual Arts Trail
"Wulfrun Shopping Centre has always been about more than retail. It's a place where the Wolverhampton community comes together, and joining the Visual Arts Trail reflects that role. Supporting local creative talent and giving young people a platform in a space this many people pass through every day is exactly the kind of long-term value we want our assets to create."
Wulfrun Shopping Centre, managed by LCP UK, part of M Core, has become the ninth location on Wolverhampton City of Youth Culture's Visual Arts Trail, bringing youth-led public art into one of the city centre's busiest retail destinations.
The Visual Arts Trail is a self-guided walk through nine outdoor artworks created by young people and professional artists from across Wolverhampton, delivered by Wolverhampton Arts Centre as part of the wider Wolverhampton: City of Youth Culture programme. The trail forms part of a three-year initiative funded by Arts Council England's Place Partnership Fund and Wolverhampton City Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, designed to co-create original artworks with young people and bring them into everyday public spaces across the city.
The artwork at Wulfrun, Decades in the Making (2026), was created by artist Charlotte Webb alongside Young Creators at Wolverhampton Arts Centre. The piece explores identity, style, and self-expression across four decades, from the 1960s through to the 1990s. Participants immersed themselves in the fashion, music, film, and cultural movements that defined each era, using collage to bring imagined characters to life. The result is a vibrant collective artwork where eras collide and generations connect, reflecting both past and present youth identity. As with all nine pieces on the trail, the artwork includes an augmented reality element, accessible via a QR code on site.
Kelly Jeffs, Wolverhampton City of Youth Culture Programme Manager, said:
"The partnership with Wulfrun Shopping Centre has been incredibly important to the success of the Visual Arts Trail. By opening up such a prominent public-facing space, they've helped create a platform where young people's creativity can be seen, celebrated and valued by thousands of people every day. Seeing this artwork brought to life on such a scale is something truly special."
Rob Ellis, Director at LCP UK, part of M Core, said:

The trail spans locations across Wolverhampton city centre, including the Manders Centre, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, the University of Wolverhampton, City of Wolverhampton College, the train and bus stations, and the Outdoor Markets. Guided walking tours are running throughout the summer for visitors to learn more about the artworks and the young people behind them.
